There is no substitute // John 4:14

14 but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst, but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.” (John 4:14 NASB)

I was reading a lot of “devotionals” but not very much of the bible. I was listening to a lot of “sermons” but not to God’s revelations. I was listening/singing a lot of “worship music” but I wasn’t truly worshiping? I would pray (well “talking”), but wouldn’t sit and listen. As I started to sit back and think, I soon started to realize that I was feeling depleted because I wasn’t truly drinking the living water, I was merely trying to substitute it with other things.

For example, our body NEEDS water and without it, my body won’t function properly. Although there is water in A LOT of different beverages, it’s just not the same. Think about it, if I drank JUST coffee would I survive? Or JUST juice? Who knows, but I do know that it isn’t an optimal way to live life… I won’t get the most out of it…

My body REQUIRES water to work optimally… Just as our SPIRIT need’s the living water only JESUS can offer through HIS word, through PRAYER, and through WORSHIPPING IN SPIRIT AND IN TRUTH… Don’t get me wrong, sermons, devotionals, quick prayers, they are all effective! BUT to live an optimal spiritual life, where we are being world changers, we have to have a steady amount of water coming into our system…

Look what Jesus tells the Samaritan women at the well, “14 but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst, but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.” (John 4:14 NASB)

Earlier in this passage, he tells her that whoever drinks of this water (from the literal well) will thirst again. At times, we find ourselves coming to the “literal” spiritual things as the substitute for the only REAL thing that will sustain us, the word, prayer, and worship…

There are TWO parts here… First, we must drink from Jesus HIMSELF, and through Jesus, we will become a new well of water… There is always a process when it comes to seeking the Lord, and living a Christ-like life… You get it? Through coming to Jesus and getting filled up, then HE makes US a well to offer the water to others, and that water is Jesus…

Also, BECAUSE Jesus rests in our hearts, we don’t have to thirst after worldly things any longer… He will satisfy if we choose to drink… He is, and always will be our great provider… We still must work hard and be disciplined, BUT because of His sacrifice, we can change the world…

Love wins… Grace wins…
