#VOD: 1 Corinthians 10:5

“We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”

Self-image… A vast majority of my life has been filled with struggles & hard times. Many of them within my control that I brought upon myself, but equally as many that were outside of my control. These moments caused me to build up false “arguments” about God.

What I mean by this is that because of the things in life I falsely blamed God for so many problems within my life and used those as reasons to keep my back towards Him. In the moment, I didn’t know that’s what I was doing but as I look back at my life I see all the bitterness that was built up in my heart towards the “god” I thought I knew.

It wasn’t until God used others to destroy those strongholds that were raised up against Him. It wasn’t until a few loving believers surrounded themselves around me and spoke the truth of the Gospel into my heart and soul. Paul is clearly stating to us all that we need to fight for the truth of the Gospel and obedience to Christ. Both in the lives of our peers and in our own lives…

A majority of us may not think it, but there are a lot of false images we have of God that aren’t true. For example, how many times has something terrible happened and our immediate response is a bit of frustration towards God as if He was the one that caused the pain… That’s a false stronghold.

What about a time where you are doing your best to be a “good” Christian and something bad or unpleasant happens and our immediate response goes something along the lines of, “What the heck God! I do X, Y, Z for you and you let this happen?!”

There are many examples I can give, but the point is that it is our job to DESTROY any and all strongholds that get set up against the true knowledge of God… In our own hearts & minds, as well as those around us… Take the time to get to know your loving Father. Take the time to get into His word and let Him speak to you. Surround yourself with those who love Jesus and will speak truth & life into situations.

You can’t do this alone… You shouldn’t do this alone… He is a good good Father.
