When Christmas doesn’t feel like Christmas

Each year for Christmas I have mixed feelings. I have spent a majority of my life seeing so many families enjoying this season together. Mom, dad, kids, etc… one big family unit…

For me, I never really had that & the truth is I will never get those memories. For many years it plagued my heart this season and I wasn’t the most festive of dudes. I spent a lot of the Christmas season excited for when it would be over. I spent a lot of the holiday seasons dreading the few days I would have to put a smile on and act like there wasn’t a huge piece of Little Nick that was missing…

For many children and adults this piece has been taken and will always be gone, but there is hope. His name is Jesus.

This season can be bitter, lonely, and honestly dreadful when it is not seen in the right way. I spent many holiday seasons with that feeling until I really started to understand why it is we celebrate Christmas.

“In this, the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent His only son into the world so that we might live through Him.” (1 John 4:9 ESV)

Beautiful right? When I first came across this verse it convicted me in so many areas of life, but most importantly was the area where I wasn’t putting others first. We are called to live THROUGH Jesus and be the hands and feet. Ya, Christmas hasn’t always been the happiest of times for me, but that doesn’t give me the green light to be a scrouge. It doesn’t give me the green light to not celebrate the birth of our Savior. It doesn’t give me the green light to ignore the fact that there are many people who are hurting, broken and alone this holiday season as well…

For all my friends our there, remember that you are loved and you are not alone. At times it may feel like it but you never are. This season is a season of complete celebration for what Jesus has done. One day this day will be an utter celebration & party for us all. It may not be this year, but one year it will be. All will be made well and every tear will be wiped from your eye…

“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” (Revelation 21:4 ESV)

Better times are coming, because of Jesus. And because of Jesus, we can all celebrate this Christmas…
