There is a message in the Ruins…

You are my hiding place and my shield;
    I hope in your word.

When things go wrong, where are we running? Do we turn towards His word or our desires? Do we turn towards something that will always remain the same (Matthew 24:35, Isaiah 40:8), or to the culture that changes daily?

Life hurts. We all know that. Pain comes. Disappointment comes. Nowhere in the bible does it say that our lives on earth will be perfect and without pain… There are countless examples in the bible that say the exact opposite, BUT they come with a promise… James 1 says it as plainly as can be, “Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.”

There are always lessons and growth in the pains. No matter how deep and dark life may seem to get it is all going to be okay… Regardless of what you may feel in the moment, please believe me when I say there will be a moment when none of us will ever feel pain, disappointment, anxiety, death, etc… There will be a beautiful moment that leads into an eternity of pure joy..

If our hope lies in our Savior and His word that way it should, we should run towards that in times of need. I can promise you when I say that I have tried it both ways. I’ve run FROM my problems towards worldly pleasures that would seem to make the hurt go away, BUT only temporarily. Shortly after, the pain would be there again & I’d go chasing more things in this world to dampen the hurt going on inside.

God’s word is the only thing that can satisfy the depths of our souls. Jesus said it Himself to the woman at the well, “but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life” (John 4:14)

If you have time today. Take a moment to sit back and truly think about where you are turning in times of despair.

Once you have reflected, look at the things you’ve turned to and how little they have ACTUALLY helped. The things of this world can & will offer temporary relief, BUT the word of God offers ETERNAL PEACE…

Give the pain a purpose. Don’t miss what God wants to teach you… He is chasing after you…
