We live in a culture today that is full of filters & highlights…. False perfection & fake lives. Where selfies must be perfect, our lives must be put together & weakness or struggles are hidden.
We live our lives trying to impress people we can’t impress, to live a life we don’t want to live & end up constantly pursuing a false sense of portrayed perfection.
Rarely does this culture see anyone who pursues the desires of their hearts? Rarely does this culture see the unfiltered, raw, unedited version of someone’s life? If you look at social media a vast majority of people have absolutely incredible lives, but deep down they are unfulfilled.
Even within the context of the church. There is a religious tendency that causes many people to feel uncomfortable with the truth of themselves. The struggles, the addictions, the hurts, the fears & the downright ugly.
The Bible teaches us the complete opposite of what culture teaches us today. Even with today’s verse, it is plain to see that it is pointless to try and fake it. God, Himself sees past the filters. He sees past the “I’m great”. He sees past the fake smiles.
God knows you. Intimately. He knows each and everything there is to know about you. God loves you. He loves you even with your struggles & addictions. He loves you even without the filters & fake smiles.
It’s about time we all get real with God & realize that someday we will stand before Him. No filter or fake smile will save us. The sad truth is that it is such a waste of time to try and pursue the outward vanity of holiness.
The word of God says that He loved us even when we were/are at the lowest of lows. (Romans 5:8) The word of God says that we should BOAST in our weakness. (2 Corinthians 12:9) The word of God says that He KNEW us before we were even born & that He set our lives up for greatness in Him. (Jeremiah 1:5) The word of God says that He has amazing plans for us full of hope. (Jeremiah 29:11)
I could go on & on about the beautiful truths of God. We do not need to live this life being fake. We can’t. At the end of the day, there will be a point where we need to take a serious look at where we are at. We’ll have to drop the act & come before God boldly. (Hebrews 4:16)
Because of what Christ did for us all, we don’t have to be fake. We can stop acting like we are enough. Because we aren’t enough. We never will be.
But He is. And our souls should find peace in that.
