Learning to defend your faith is something that is so crucial in today’s world and it should not be neglected. Sadly, most believers do not feel qualified to “defend” their faith and it completely stops them from sharing their faith. We should all know how to defend our faith and know why we believe what we do, BUT no one has to learn how to tell their story.
The man in today’s verse was healed by Jesus and his key defense was simply that. Throughout our society, some people will argue and debate every possible thing they come across. With the Pharisees, they wanted nothing more than to get rid of Jesus. They tried to accuse Jesus of being a sinner to this man, and his response was profound and so very simple.
“The man answered, “Why, this is an amazing thing! You do not know where he comes from, and yet he opened my eyes. We know that God does not listen to sinners, but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does his will, God listens to him. Never since the world began has it been heard that anyone opened the eyes of a man born blind. If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.” They answered him, “You were born in utter sin, and would you teach us?” And they cast him out.John 9:30-34 ESV
You see, the truth is that we need to be focused on how we love one another and the way we treat people. Our testimonies of what God has done in our lives cannot be argued and the power that comes from a changed life. There is power in living out the restored life that God has given every believer who has trusted in Him. When the “world” sees that Church they should see such an overwhelming and loving community. When the “world” sees a transformed life, we should at least be able to point back to Him.

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”John 13:34-35 ESV
At times, it will not matter how much proof you give for the life that God has blessed you with. It will not matter how obvious the truth may be, it will not matter how much you love someone… sadly, sometimes a hard heart remains hard. This should not scare us away from speaking God’s truth in love to those around us. Our lives should speak of His love and bring God glory.
